Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Kiran,

Hello, I hope you and your family are doing well. I am very pleased that you are trying to learn a new sport and want to seek advice. I am over the moon to guide you for a better decision process.

There are several kinds of sports are played by a large number of individuals. Although you have been thinking about this for two weeks, still you are getting confused about taking part in a new sport as a player. However, I would like to consider you should go towards cricket because it is well-known sport and providing a significant earning to players.

Furthermore, either you can learn from any insitutions or by watching youtube videos. No doubt, there have been opened many new academies which provide a training to the players. It would be convinient and cost effective approach for you.

I have also done my master's degree last month, i would have a lot of sufficient time to join you in this sport. By learning same sport we can learn many new things from each other such as cooperation, team work and discipline.

I am hoping to hearing from you promptly.

Best Wishes,

Rrr

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you recommend cricket, suggest academies or online videos as ways to learn, and invite your friend to join you. The email also has an appropriate friendly purpose and closing. The recommendation is relevant, but the reason that cricket is “providing a significant earning to players” is not clearly connected to why it would suit Kiran personally. The learning advice is also quite general; for example, you could name a local academy, describe a beginner’s class, or suggest a first step. Your invitation is clear, though the benefits of learning together are listed rather than explained. These details make the response complete overall, while some ideas remain less developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The message has a clear overall sequence: greeting and context, recommendation, learning options, and an invitation to learn together. Paragraph breaks help the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore” and “However” show an attempt to connect ideas. Some transitions are not fully logical: “Although you have been thinking about this for two weeks” introduces information that does not lead clearly into the recommendation, while “However” does not establish a strong contrast. The opening also spends several sentences on general context before reaching the advice. To make the progression smoother, move directly from acknowledging Kiran’s interest to explaining why cricket suits them, then connect the training suggestion and invitation more naturally.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of vocabulary for a friendly email, including “over the moon,” “cost effective,” “cooperation,” and “discipline.” These attempts to use less common expressions show some range, but several choices are unnatural or imprecise in context. For instance, “guide you for a better decision process” and “go towards cricket” do not express the advice naturally, while “a significant earning to players” is an awkward collocation. There are also spelling errors in “insitutions” and “convinient,” and “youtube” should be capitalised as “YouTube.” Aim for straightforward, accurate phrases such as “help you choose,” “take up cricket,” and “earn a good living.” This would make your meaning clearer and more idiomatic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the concessive clause beginning “Although” and the sentence about learning from each other. The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “There are several kinds of sports are played” incorrectly combines two clause structures; write “Several kinds of sports are played” or “There are several kinds of sports.” Other examples include “I am hoping to hearing” instead of “I am hoping to hear,” and “I have also done my master's degree last month,” where the past-time reference calls for “completed” or “finished.” Articles and agreement also need attention in “a well-known sport” and “academies which provide training.” Check verb forms, sentence construction, and punctuation carefully to improve accuracy.
