Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sneha,

I'm really glad you asked me to advice you for learn new sport. I would strongly recommend 'Badminton, as easy to learn and stay fit to your body.

There is badminton academy near our area that offer beginner classes in the evening. You could join the classes easy to learn in 2-3 per week and they offer to watch some online videos first and then join the academy. so you can trainning at home first and then try to academy. Further more important they also offer free lesson for trial. so you can also join in this saturday. so you can join its easy to learn and 2-3 times in week is enough for good progress.

In fact, why don't we learn badminton? it would be more enjoyable and great time to spend together and we also practice together daily. We go academy this saturday and join trial lesson. If we enjoy together we registered course together.

Let me know what you think. I'm sure we wil havel great time to learning this sport together.

Best wishes,

Anita

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three requirements: badminton is recommended, the academy and online videos are suggested as ways to learn, and you invite Sneha to attend a trial lesson with you. The friendly purpose is clear throughout, and the invitation to practise together gives the email a personal focus. You also provide practical details, such as evening classes and a Saturday trial. To make the advice more fully developed, explain briefly why badminton suits Sneha in particular; “easy to learn and stay fit” is relevant but general. Clarify the learning sequence too, since the references to watching videos, training at home, and joining the academy are somewhat repetitive. Overall, the task is covered clearly, with some ideas that could be extended more specifically.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The email has a recognisable progression: recommendation, learning options, invitation to join you, and a friendly closing. Paragraphing supports these stages, and phrases such as “In fact” and “Let me know what you think” help signal the shift to the invitation and ending. The main limitation is that connections between details can feel mechanical or repetitive. In the second paragraph, “so you can” appears several times, while the sequence of videos, home practice, academy classes, and the trial lesson is not entirely clear. The final paragraph also moves quickly from practising daily to registering for a course. Use a wider range of linking expressions and make the order of actions explicit to strengthen the progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main advice, using relevant terms such as “beginner classes,” “trial lesson,” “practice,” and “academy.” The friendly tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. However, the range is limited, and several noticeable word-choice, collocation, word-form, and spelling errors make parts less natural: “advice you for learn,” “stay fit to your body,” “free lesson for trial,” and “great time to learning.” There are also spelling errors such as “trainning” and “wil havel.” Aim to learn common sport-related phrases as complete units—for example, “give you advice,” “keep fit,” and “book a trial lesson”—and proofread spelling and word forms. This would make your meaning smoother and more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the reader can generally follow the recommendation and invitation. However, the range is limited, and attempts to combine several ideas often contain errors that can make the message difficult to process. Examples include “I'm really glad you asked me to advice you for learn new sport,” “There is badminton academy near our area that offer,” and “If we enjoy together we registered course together.” These show problems with verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence construction. Punctuation and capitalisation also need attention, particularly after sentence breaks such as “so you can trainning…” Practise building accurate sentences with infinitives and future forms, such as “I’m glad you asked me for advice” and “If we enjoy it, we can register for a course.”
