Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Ahmed,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this to let you know about a new sport that I think you should learn, which is interesting and will be good for your physical and mental health.
Though many new sports are trending these days like padel or paintball, but I think you should focus on taking swimming classes and become a good swimmer. I believe it is an important life skill that everyone should know in their life.
There are many different clubs in our town that give swimming classes. For example: Karachi Gymkhana has an amazing pool, with both indoor and outdoor setting. The coach there is also very professional and you can learn basics of swimming within a few weeks.
I have also been thinking of joining swimming classes after my work. If you are interested, we both can start next month, the time slot 7-8pm would be best suited. In this way, we will have company and will motivate each other as well.
Looking forward to hearing from you about your decision.
Take care,
Alvina

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The email addresses all three requirements clearly. You recommend swimming and explain why it is suitable by calling it an important life skill with physical and mental health benefits. You also give a practical way to learn, naming Karachi Gymkhana, its pool and a professional coach, then invite Ahmed to join you next month. These details make the advice relevant and supported. The explanation of how to learn is especially concrete, while the benefits are stated somewhat generally; a brief link to Ahmed’s interests or circumstances would make the recommendation more individually persuasive. The friendly opening and closing suit the purpose and audience, and your intention to learn together remains clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The message is organised in a clear sequence: introduction and recommendation, reasons for choosing swimming, information about lessons, and a joint invitation followed by a closing. Paragraphing supports this progression, and links such as “For example,” “If you are interested,” and “In this way” help the reader follow the ideas. The email also maintains a consistent friendly tone. Some transitions could be smoother: “Though many new sports are trending these days like padel or paintball, but…” combines two contrasting structures, making the connection less controlled. You could also link the club information more directly to the invitation. Overall, the organisation is logical and easy to follow, with a few places where cohesion could be more flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task and includes some useful topic-specific choices, such as “swimming classes,” “professional,” “life skill,” and “motivate each other.” The language communicates the recommendation and practical arrangements clearly. However, some expressions are imprecise or less natural, including “new sport that I think you should learn,” “good for your physical and mental health,” and “indoor and outdoor setting.” “Trending” is also somewhat informal for describing sports in this context. Aim for more precise collocations and a little more variety when explaining benefits and facilities. These word-choice issues do not prevent understanding, but greater naturalness and precision would strengthen the email.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “a new sport that I think you should learn” and the conditional invitation, “If you are interested, we both can start next month.” Most of the message is easy to understand, and punctuation generally supports the meaning. Some grammatical control is still uneven. In “Though many new sports are trending these days like padel or paintball, but…,” the concessive clause is incorrectly paired with “but”; use one structure, such as “Although…, I think…”. The sentence “the time slot 7-8pm would be best suited” also needs a clearer grammatical connection, for example, “A 7–8 pm time slot would suit us best.” More consistent control of these patterns would improve accuracy.
