Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Hi Alex,
I hope you're doing well. I am so excited that you're interested in learning a new sport.
I would suggest you should try cricket as it is a fun game, easy to learn and requires little strength and stamina.
I have heard that city Cricket Academy offers
training sessions that are available at cheap price from begginer to advanced level. The coaches are well experienced and expert in
cricketing knowledge. Some of them are retired professional cricketers.
I am also keen in learning about this sport.I
know little bit about it but still I need to learn technical skills that are important for playing in the long-run. It will be fun learning this together
and will motivate each other. It will be beneficial to learn this game as it offers better employment opportunities and helpful in career growth.
I look forward to hearing from you soon!
Take care,
Taran

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: cricket is recommended, the City Cricket Academy is suggested as a place to learn, and you invite Alex to learn with you. The reasons that cricket is fun and does not require much strength make the recommendation relevant, while the academy’s coaching options give practical guidance. Your enthusiasm for learning together is also clear. This meets the task well, and the mention of career benefits adds a further reason to take up the sport. However, the learning advice could be more specific—for example, you could explain how to enrol, what equipment to bring, or how often to attend. The career-growth point is less directly connected to your friend’s request and is not developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The email has a clear overall sequence: greeting and recommendation, information about lessons, then your shared interest and a friendly closing. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “I would suggest” and “I look forward to hearing from you soon” suit the email format. Some connections are less smooth, however. The shift from learning together to employment opportunities feels abrupt, and “I am also keen in learning about this sport.I know little bit about it” runs together in presentation. A clearer transition and more consistent spacing would make the progression easier to follow. Overall, the organisation is coherent, though some cohesion is mechanical or unclear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the recommendation and practical details, including “training sessions,” “coaches,” “technical skills,” and “career growth.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “retired professional cricketers.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “cheap price,” “well experienced,” and “keen in learning” do not sound natural in this context. “Cricketing knowledge” is also less idiomatic than a simpler phrase such as “knowledge of cricket.” Spelling errors in “begginer” and the inconsistent form “long-run” reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent understanding, but more natural collocations and careful proofreading would strengthen your vocabulary control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple sentences and longer structures, including the reason clause “as it is a fun game” and the relative clause “that are important for playing in the long-run.” Most of the message remains understandable, and the errors rarely obscure your meaning. Some grammatical patterns need attention: “I would suggest you should try” combines two recommendation structures; use “I suggest you try” or “I would suggest trying.” In “I know little bit about it,” an article is needed, and “it offers better employment opportunities and helpful in career growth” lacks a parallel verb structure. There are also punctuation and spacing problems, especially where sentences run together. More accurate sentence construction and proofreading would improve control.
