Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Ravi,
I hope you are doing well. I'm writing this regarding my a new sport activity that you have been looking for. In the recent times, Basketball is one sport that grabbed my attention. How does it sound?
Firstly, basketball is one type of sport which helps you stay active and fit as it involves lot of physical activity. Moreover, we have a new basket ball court in our neighbourhood and also they train in the sport for beginners. As it is in our neighbourhood it is more convenient to play consistently.
Also, I will join you for the basket ball. We can play together and everyday we can go to the basket ball court after work.
Please let me know what you think about this idea. If you have any other suggestions please let me know. I will be happy to join the sport along with you.
Warm Regards,
Dearggh.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you recommend basketball, explain that a nearby court offers beginner training, and invite Ravi to play with you after work. The advice is relevant and your friendly purpose is clear. The explanation of why basketball suits Ravi is present (“helps you stay active and fit”), but it is general, and the learning plan could be more specific—for example, how to contact the trainers or arrange an introductory session. The invitation is also clear, though “everyday” does not explain whether you mean daily or simply regularly. This covers the task well overall, with some ideas less fully developed than others; adding practical details and extending the reasons would make the advice more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The email has a recognisable progression: an opening, reasons for choosing basketball, a joint invitation, and a closing request for Ravi’s opinion. Paragraphing helps separate these functions, and connectors such as “Firstly” and “Moreover” guide the reader. However, the linking can feel mechanical, and the second paragraph combines several points without developing their relationship. “Also” begins the invitation paragraph, but a clearer transition could show how the nearby beginner training leads to your suggestion to learn together. The final two sentences repeat the request for suggestions and the offer to join, so they could be combined. Overall, the arrangement is coherent, but more natural transitions and less repetition would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the recommendation and practical details, with relevant terms such as “active,” “physical activity,” “neighbourhood,” and “beginners.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or imprecise. “Basket ball” is repeatedly written as two words, and “sport activity” and “in the recent times” are not natural choices in this context. “Grabbed my attention” is understandable but does not clearly explain why you recommend the sport to Ravi. Aim for more precise collocations and avoid repeating “basketball” and “sport” where a natural alternative is available. These choices do not prevent understanding, but greater accuracy and variety would make the email sound more fluent and appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple sentences and more complex forms, including the reason clause “as it involves lot of physical activity” and the conditional question “How does it sound?” Most sentences are understandable, and errors rarely obscure your meaning. Some grammatical slips remain: “I'm writing this regarding my a new sport activity” contains an unnecessary article and an awkward sentence structure; “involves lot” needs an article; and “everyday we can go” should use “every day” when referring to frequency. The closing “Dearggh” also appears to be an unintended sign-off or name, so check the final punctuation and format. Review articles and sentence construction, while continuing to use varied sentence forms.
