You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sara,

I am writing this letter to give you a sincere advice about learning a new sport.

As your summer vacations will be commencing from next week. I recommend you joining the swimming classes. Swimming would be a suitable sport for you in this scroching temperature. Moreover, it will help you to maintain your health and to loose weight.

You shouldn't start learning this sport on your own because it can be risky and unsafe. It would be prefect if you hire a swimming instructor to teach you some tricks and techniques of this sport. He will help you to improve your breathing level and also tell you some actions to prevent while doing it.

I am sure that you will learn this sport quickly because I know that you are a fast learner.

I am also looking to start swimming lessons soon, so it would be perfect if we learn this sport together.

See you soon.

Kind regards

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three requirements clearly: you recommend swimming, explain that Sara should take lessons with an instructor, and invite her to learn alongside you. The advice is relevant and supported with reasons, such as the hot weather and the benefits for health and weight management. Your warning that learning alone may be unsafe also makes the recommendation practical. The ideas are clear throughout, although some support remains general: for example, “some tricks and techniques” and “some actions to prevent” do not specify what the instructor would teach. Adding one or two concrete details about lessons or how you would arrange them would make the advice more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The email has a clear progression: you introduce your purpose, recommend swimming, explain how Sara can learn, and then suggest joining lessons together. Paragraphing helps separate these points, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “also” make relationships between ideas clear. This is a coherent overall arrangement. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the opening fragment, “As your summer vacations will be commencing from next week,” interrupts the flow before the recommendation. The closing is also separated from the main message without a sign-off name. To strengthen cohesion, connect the seasonal context directly to your recommendation and use a more natural transition into the shared plan.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for a friendly advice email, including topic-related terms such as “swimming instructor,” “breathing,” and “techniques.” The tone is generally appropriate, and the meaning remains clear. There are, however, several spelling and word-choice or collocation errors: “scroching” should be “scorching,” “loose weight” should be “lose weight,” and “give you a sincere advice” is not idiomatic; use “give you some sincere advice.” “Actions to prevent” is also unclear in this context, where “safety precautions” or “things to avoid” would be more natural. Greater accuracy with common expressions and more precise vocabulary would make the email sound more fluent and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the reason clause in “because it can be risky and unsafe” and the conditional suggestion “it would be perfect if we learn this sport together.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. “As your summer vacations will be commencing from next week” is a dependent clause used as a sentence; attach it to the following sentence. In “I recommend you joining,” use “I recommend that you join” or “I recommend joining.” The phrase “it would be perfect if we learn” also needs a consistent conditional form: “if we learned.” Review articles and countability as well, particularly “a sincere advice,” to improve accuracy.
