Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Karan,

I hope you are doing well. I feel great to hear from you that you want to learn new sport and pleased to help you for choose best game. think all sport games have their own unique benefits.

I think badminton would be a fantastic game for you to try. It is fast-paced game which requires physical fitness, focused mind and flexibility. It can play both indoor and outdoor also you can play it in all seasons. It keeps calm your mind and helps to improve strength. It can play with two people so you can play daily with your friends.

You can learn basics quickly by joining classes at Etobicoke Olympium, which is right here in our town. You can practice daily or weekly, it is easy to learn. They have friendly coaches, but I personally recommend Mr. Sahil. He is very good coach and teach you proper racket grip, leg movements and serving rules and some tricks to get extra points in match.

I am thinking about to join class with you. It will great fun and feel each other as a competitor. It will be the best time for hang out more often. Let me know what you think and we check the schedule this week.

Waiting for your positive response.

Your Friend,

Vidhi

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The email addresses all three requirements clearly: you recommend badminton, explain that your friend could join classes at Etobicoke Olympium and learn from a coach, and invite them to take the class with you. The recommendation is supported with relevant reasons, including fitness, flexibility and the fact that two people can play. The practical details about Mr. Sahil’s coaching also make the advice useful. Some points are more general than fully developed—for example, “You can practice daily or weekly” does not explain what a typical lesson or practice would involve, and the benefits of badminton are listed rather than explored. Overall, the purpose and friendly tone are clear, with room to extend a few supporting details further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The message follows a clear progression: you respond to your friend, recommend a sport, explain how to learn it, and then suggest joining together. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and the closing invitation gives the email a natural finish. Linking phrases such as “I think,” “You can,” and “Let me know what you think” guide the reader through the advice. Some connections within sentences are less smooth, particularly “It can play both indoor and outdoor also you can play it in all seasons,” where the ideas run together. A few short statements in the coaching paragraph could also be linked more naturally. More varied, precise transitions and clearer sentence boundaries would make the progression feel more polished.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a friendly advice email, including sport-specific terms such as “fast-paced,” “flexibility,” “racket grip,” “serving rules,” and “competitor.” These details make the recommendation concrete and show an attempt to use more precise language. Some word choices and combinations are inaccurate or unnatural, however, as in “learn new sport,” “keeps calm your mind,” and “feel each other as a competitor.” “Fantastic game” and “best time” are understandable but rather general. Aim to learn common collocations and choose expressions that fit the intended meaning; this will make your advice sound more fluent while preserving its warm tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The email includes both simple sentences and attempts at longer structures, such as “It is fast-paced game which requires physical fitness, focused mind and flexibility.” However, grammatical errors occur frequently and sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include missing articles in “learn new sport” and “It is very good coach,” missing subjects or auxiliaries in “think all sport games” and “It can play,” and the verb-form error “he … teach you.” The sentence beginning “I feel great to hear from you that…” also has an awkward grammatical construction. Practise building accurate sentences with articles, subject–verb agreement, and complete verb phrases before adding extra clauses. Correcting these patterns would make the message much easier to read.
