Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sara,

I hope you're in pink of your health. I'm writing this to responed to your advice about learning a new sport.

To be honest, I think martial arts will be the best sports which is suitable for you. As you told me earlier that you like to do physical acitivites, it will be the best choice to go with. It will not only helps you to gain experience but also helps you to remain healthy.

There are various platforms from where you can learn, such as through internet by watching the videos or joining in-person classes which provide the proper training. Along with this, on the weekends after 5pm one of the famous martial artists conduct classes in the main hall near the park so you can also join there.

Actually, I was also deciding to join the classes but I always want companion whom I can go with. Can we both join the class together?

It will be more beneficial if we join together because it will help us to share our problems and how to overcome.

I look forward to getting a reply from you.

Best wishes,

Parneet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you recommend martial arts, explain that Sara could use online videos or attend in-person classes, and invite her to join you. The recommendation is supported by her interest in physical activities and the health benefits, while the detail about weekend classes gives practical advice. Your friendly opening and closing also suit an email to a friend. To strengthen the response further, develop the learning advice with a little more specific information—for example, the class level, cost, or how Sara could contact the instructor. The reason for learning together is relevant, but “share our problems and how to overcome” could be explained more clearly in relation to practising the sport.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The email has a clear progression from greeting and recommendation to learning options, a joint invitation, and a closing. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and linking expressions such as “not only…but also” and “Along with this” guide the reader through your points. The final invitation follows naturally from the information about the classes. Some connections are less smooth: “Actually” does not clearly signal the shift to your own plans, and “It will be more beneficial” repeats the idea of joining together without adding much detail. Use more precise transitions and make references such as “there” unmistakably point to the class location to make the flow even more effortless.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the topic and maintain a friendly tone, including “physical activities,” “proper training,” and “companion.” However, several word choices or collocations sound unnatural or imprecise, which limits the range and control shown. For example, “in pink of your health” is not the usual expression, and “the best sports” is awkward when recommending one activity. There are also spelling errors in “responed” and “acitivites,” and “joining in-person classes” could be phrased more naturally. Aim to learn vocabulary in common word partnerships and check spelling carefully; this will make your message sound more fluent and precise without changing its clear meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including the conditional “if we join together” and the paired structure “not only…but also.” Most of the message remains understandable, and the sentence patterns are varied enough for this task. Some grammatical errors persist, however. In “martial arts will be the best sports which is suitable,” the singular “is” does not agree with “sports,” and the sentence would be clearer if the recommendation were framed as one sport. “It will not only helps” also combines a modal with an incorrect verb form; use “will not only help.” Review agreement, modal verb patterns, and article use, and proofread punctuation around clauses to improve accuracy.
