Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Tamanna,

I would like to suggest you a new sport that would be suitable for you and you can learn it easily. The game is badminton. It becomes more popular in present time. It helps player's to reduce their stress and maintain their well-being. I also want to learn about this game. Because I find it very interesting and helpful. I think that we have to take classes of that sports from Jai Academy. This academy is very reputed in our locality and the owner is also my father's friend. So, it is very beneficial for us to learn that sport from here. Therefore, we both learn it together, which hepl us to learn that sport more actively. I hope you understand it and if you want to learn this game please inform me. Because they have limited seats only for some sports. So we have to make our booking at least one week before.

Thank you

Yours truly,

Deepika

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The email addresses all three requirements: you recommend badminton, explain that your friend could take classes at Jai Academy, and invite your friend to learn with you. The practical details about the academy’s reputation, its owner, and booking ahead make the advice relevant, and the friendly opening and closing suit the purpose. Some points are less fully developed than others: you say badminton is suitable and easy to learn, but do not explain why it would suit Tamanna in particular, and the benefits of the sport are stated briefly rather than supported. The invitation is clear, though it could be phrased more directly. To strengthen the response further, add a specific reason badminton matches your friend’s interests or circumstances and explain what the lessons involve.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The information is generally relevant and follows a sensible sequence: you introduce badminton, give reasons and a place to learn, then propose learning together and mention booking. The greeting and sign-off also make the email format clear. However, the body is presented as one long paragraph, so the recommendation, learning arrangements and invitation are not visually separated. Several linking words—“Because,” “So” and “Therefore”—are used mechanically, and some sentence connections are awkward, such as “I also want to learn about this game. Because…”. The reference in “learn that sport from here” is also not entirely clear. Use two or three short paragraphs and connect ideas more naturally, combining closely related points rather than beginning sentences with “Because.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main advice, including “badminton,” “classes,” “academy,” “well-being” and “limited seats.” The tone is mostly appropriate for a friendly email, and phrases such as “make our booking” convey a practical next step. However, several word choices and collocations sound unnatural or repetitive: “a new sport,” “learn about this game,” “that sport,” and “in present time.” There is also a spelling error in “hepl.” These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they limit precision and naturalness. Choose more idiomatic expressions, vary repeated references to the sport, and proofread spelling. For example, “take lessons in badminton” is more natural than “take classes of that sports.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response includes both simple sentences and attempts at longer structures, for example the sentence explaining why Jai Academy may be suitable and the conditional “if you want to learn this game please inform me.” The main message remains understandable. However, there are some errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles and punctuation. “It helps player's to reduce their stress” has incorrect possessive/plural construction, while “I also want to learn about this game. Because…” leaves a dependent clause as a sentence fragment. “Therefore, we both learn it together” uses a verb form that does not fit the intended future meaning, and commas are needed around the conditional clause. Aim for more accurate complex sentences, such as “If you’d like to learn, please let me know,” and check agreement and sentence boundaries.
