Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Manel,
How are you? I hope you are doing well. Thanks for asking for my advice on learning a new sport.
I think swimming is a very good option and would be a great choice, because it's a fun activity that you will enjoy. It's aslo can be a life saving in serious situation. Plus the precing in the town pool are very affordable, so you won't have a any trouble getting satrting.
If you want to learn swimming, the best way is to be patient and forget you fears, relaxing is the key for swimming. you will need a swimming clothes.
Why don't we meet in the week-end? i'd love to learn swemming with you, and it will be much fun than going by yourself. Let me know what you think!
Anyway, I have to go now, but write back soon and tell me when you're free/ Thank you for considering my request; I look forward to hearing from you.
See you soon,
Lamia

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: swimming is recommended, you give some advice on learning it, and you invite Manel to learn with you. The reasons that it is enjoyable, potentially life-saving, and affordable make the recommendation relevant. However, the learning advice is less fully developed: “be patient” and “relaxing is the key” are general, and mentioning swimming clothes does not explain how to practise or find instruction. The invitation to meet at the weekend is clear, but adding a practical suggestion—such as joining beginner lessons at the town pool—would make the advice more complete and useful. The email is appropriately friendly and maintains a clear purpose throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The email has a clear overall arrangement: greeting and opening, recommendation, learning advice, invitation, and closing. Paragraphs help separate these stages, and linking expressions such as “Plus” and “Why don’t we” make the progression easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectations securely and shows some effective organisation. To make the flow more consistently smooth, connect the learning advice more explicitly to a practical next step; the shift from being patient and relaxing to needing swimming clothes feels abrupt. The closing also combines several sign-offs and requests, making the ending less controlled. Choose one concise closing and ensure each paragraph develops its main point in a connected way.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough everyday vocabulary to communicate the main message, including “a great choice,” “life saving,” “affordable,” and “learn … together.” The friendly tone is suitable for writing to a friend. However, the range is limited, and several spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “aslo,” “precing,” “satrting,” and “swemming.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “forget you fears” and “you will need a swimming clothes,” which can make the reader pause. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning natural combinations such as “take beginner lessons,” “overcome your fear,” and “buy a swimsuit.” More precise vocabulary would make the advice clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of short sentences and some longer structures, including the reason introduced by “because” and the suggestion framed as “Why don’t we…?” Most of the message remains understandable, and the basic sentence patterns are generally clear. Some grammatical errors remain, however: “It's aslo can be” has an incorrect verb construction, “you fears” lacks agreement, and “you will need a swimming clothes” has an article and noun-number problem. Capitalisation is also inconsistent after full stops, as in “you will need” and “i'd love.” The final sentence joins several closing ideas awkwardly. Practise checking verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, while retaining the range of structures you already attempt.
