Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear hema,

hello hema hope you are doing well. I got your letter and I am glad to know you have a keen interest in learning a different sport. I know you play tennis really well and i have seen you winning nationals. I waould love to recommand a new sport that is really trending in our town. It is quit similar from tennis so you would grasp it really quick.

The sport is called pickle ball. It is one of the most played sport by our new generation. There are lots of pickleball centers in different area. I have a membership of a club which has pickleball facilities with a coach. We both can checkout next weekend and learn this new sport. My membership is premium so I am allowed to bring a guest with me.

I am really hopping to meet you next week and try this new sport with you. Let me know if you have any doubts and whether you liked my suggestion. I will make a booking at my club accordingly. Looking forward for your reply.

Your loving,

kiara

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you recommend pickleball, explain that a club has facilities and a coach, and invite your friend to try it with you next weekend. The personal details about her tennis ability and your guest membership make the advice relevant and give the email a clear, friendly purpose. The learning plan is understandable, though it could be developed further by explaining how lessons would work, what equipment is needed, or how often you might practise. The claim that pickleball is “one of the most played sport” is broad and unsupported, so a more specific reason it suits your friend would strengthen the recommendation. Overall, the task is fully addressed, with some ideas extended but not all equally developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The email has a clear progression: you acknowledge your friend’s interest, introduce the sport, explain the club option, and close with an invitation and request for a reply. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and the friendly opening and sign-off suit the purpose. Some links between ideas are a little mechanical, particularly the repeated references to learning and trying the sport, and the final paragraph repeats the invitation rather than adding much new information. The reference in “We both can checkout next weekend” is understandable, but the plan could be expressed more smoothly and precisely. To strengthen cohesion, use a few more natural transitions and make the steps in the proposed learning plan connect explicitly.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for a friendly email and includes relevant terms such as “keen interest,” “facilities,” “coach,” and “membership.” These help communicate the recommendation and practical arrangements. You also attempt some less common expressions, but several choices or spellings are inaccurate: “recommand,” “quit similar,” “hopping,” and “checkout” do not convey the intended forms naturally. “One of the most played sport” is also an awkward collocation. These slips do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim to check spelling and choose familiar, accurate collocations—for example, describe the sport as “similar to tennis” and say you can “check it out” together.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex forms, including “I am glad to know you have…” and “which has pickleball facilities with a coach.” The message remains clear despite some grammatical and punctuation errors. For example, “one of the most played sport” needs plural agreement (“sports”), while “There are lots of pickleball centers in different area” needs a plural noun. The opening also needs sentence boundaries and capitalization: “Hello, Hema. I hope you are doing well.” In “It is quite similar from tennis,” the preposition pattern should be “similar to.” Review sentence punctuation, articles, and plural forms, and try adding a wider range of accurately controlled sentence structures.
