Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Smith,

I hope you are doing well. I received your letter last night in which you wanted a sport recommendation to keep yourself physically fit. I am really excited that you have started taking care of yourself.

My suggestion would be to learn Padel game. Padel has become one of the most talked sports of the town as it is a high intensity sport. It helps to keep your body warmer and keeps blood regulation normal.

If you really want to learn the sport then you can take the membership of the Padel Court of our town. Their memebrship perks are valid for 2 months and also includes training of Padel game with a personal coach. I am also taking their memebrship in next month. Let me know if you want to take this membership, we can join it together. It'll be fun to learn this new game together.

I hope to see you soon.

Kind Regards,

Ume Laila

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You address all three points clearly: you recommend padel, explain that your friend can join the local court and receive coaching, and invite them to learn with you. The advice is relevant and the friendly purpose is clear throughout. You also give a reason for the recommendation by describing padel as energetic and beneficial for fitness. To make the ideas more fully developed, explain why this particular sport suits your friend—for example, its beginner-friendly nature or the availability of local facilities—and add practical details about how to start, such as arranging a trial lesson. The health claims are quite general, so a more specific, credible benefit would strengthen the recommendation and support it more effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The email follows a clear progression: greeting and context, recommendation, learning arrangements, invitation to join, and a polite closing. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and links such as “If you really want to learn the sport” and “also” make the advice easy to follow. The invitation is connected naturally to your own plan to take membership. To make the flow more polished, avoid repeating “membership” and “learn this new game together” so closely, and use a clearer transition between the sport’s benefits and the practical instructions. Overall, the organisation is logical and the reader can follow the message without difficulty, though some cohesion is a little repetitive.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the purpose and includes relevant terms such as “high intensity sport,” “personal coach,” and “membership perks.” These choices communicate the main ideas, but some phrasing is imprecise or unnatural, including “one of the most talked sports” and “keep your body warmer.” There are also spelling errors in “memebrship,” which slightly reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and precise descriptions of the sport’s benefits; for example, describe it as popular locally and say it can improve fitness or cardiovascular health. The message remains understandable, but more consistent control of word choice and spelling would make it sound more fluent and appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the relative clause “in which you wanted a sport recommendation” and the conditional opening “If you really want to learn the sport.” Most sentences are understandable, and errors do not prevent the reader from following your advice. Some grammatical choices remain inaccurate or awkward, however: “a sport recommendation” would be more natural as “a recommendation for a sport,” and “Their membership perks … also includes” has a subject–verb agreement problem if “perks” is the subject. The sentence about membership being valid for two months also needs clearer construction. Continue practising agreement and sentence phrasing while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
