Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sam,

I hope you are fit and fine. I received your letter and you want advise regarding new sport activity.

I believe that swimming can be best option for you because it is an enjoyable and beneficial physical activity. It is does not require expensive equipments, so it is budget friendly. It is a great way to reduce stress level and maintain a healthy lifestyle. It also provides an opportunity to meet new people and make friends.

You can join a local sports club because swimming facility available over there. If you want you can watch some YouTube videos for basic information and also hire a tutor who can teach you regarding swimming styles, methods, and so on. If practise regularly for some hours then you can learn about this activity more easily because practise makes man perfect.

We can learn this activity together because in that way we can motivate each other and enjoy playing together. I am thinking on this satureday we can visit a nearby local club regarding admission in this activity.

I hope you find my advise helpful. Looking forward to learning this sportwith you.

Best wishes,

Kirandeep

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You address all three requirements clearly: swimming is recommended, you explain that Sam could use a local club, online videos, or a tutor, and you propose learning together. The reasons for choosing swimming—its health benefits, affordability, and social opportunities—also support your recommendation. The invitation to visit a club on Saturday makes the advice personal and practical. This is a strong, complete response, though some points are stated generally rather than developed in detail; for example, you could explain what kind of beginner class or lesson would suit Sam. A little more specific support for the learning plan would make the ideas feel more fully developed and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The email follows a clear progression: you introduce the request, recommend swimming, explain how to learn it, suggest joining together, and close politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and links such as “because,” “so,” and “also” make relationships between ideas clear. The tone and format are appropriate for a friend. Some connections are less smooth, however: “If you want” and “and also” make the learning advice feel like a list, while “because in that way” is an awkward link between the shared activity and its benefits. Use a wider range of natural transitions and refer back to ideas more smoothly to make the progression feel less formulaic.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the topic and give several relevant reasons, including “beneficial physical activity,” “reduce stress level,” and “maintain a healthy lifestyle.” However, noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors limit precision and naturalness. Examples include “advise” where the noun “advice” is needed, “expensive equipments,” and “sport activity.” Some phrases are also awkward, such as “regarding admission in this activity” and “playing together” for swimming. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise expressions for lessons, facilities, and practising a sport would make the email sound more fluent and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including explanations with “because” and a conditional sentence beginning “If you want.” The main ideas remain understandable, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur repeatedly. For example, “It is does not require” has an unnecessary auxiliary, “swimming facility available” is missing a verb and article, and “If practise regularly” lacks a clear subject and auxiliary. “I am thinking on this Saturday” also uses an incorrect preposition in the sentence pattern. Practise building accurate sentences with a subject and finite verb, and check agreement and articles before adding longer clauses. This will help you use complex structures more reliably.
