Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Manel,
I'm would be delighted to help you choosing a new sport to learn.
Our town is full of gyms and football staduims but I think swimming is the best option for you, especaily with the new pool that has been opened last month. You told me once that you are suffering for backace for a while, and as you know swimming helps for this.
To start swimming you need to join the town pool, it opens everyday between 8:00 AM and 10:00 PM. I suggest you go in the evening as it is less crowded. All you need to bring is a swimsuit and a towel. The best way to learn is to face the fear and stop worring, this way you will be a good swimmer by the end of the month!
I am availible every Sanday and Monday, I can come to learn and to support you. Tell me if this arrangement suits you.
Let me know if you need any farther help.
Best wishes,
Lamia.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You address all three requirements clearly: you recommend swimming, explain how to begin by joining the town pool and what to bring, and invite your friend to learn with you. The personal reference to their back pain also makes the recommendation relevant, while the proposed evenings and your availability give the email a practical, friendly purpose. The advice is generally supported, though the claim that swimming will help the back and that your friend will become a good swimmer by the end of the month is stated rather broadly, without qualification or explanation. To strengthen the response further, briefly explain why swimming may suit them and suggest a more realistic learning plan, such as taking beginner lessons or practising regularly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The email has a clear progression: you introduce your recommendation, give practical information about starting, then suggest learning together and close politely. Paragraphing supports these distinct stages, and linking phrases such as “To start swimming” and “I suggest” help the reader follow your advice. The friendly opening and sign-off also suit the email format. Cohesion is generally effective, although some transitions between details are quite abrupt—for example, the move from the pool’s opening hours to what to bring, and then to overcoming fear. You could make these links smoother by grouping practical arrangements together and explaining how lessons or practice would help your friend feel confident.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for this familiar topic, and phrases such as “less crowded,” “face the fear,” and “support you” help communicate practical advice and encouragement. The tone is appropriately friendly. However, several spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural expressions limit the accuracy and flexibility of your word choice: “staduims,” “especaily,” “backace,” “availible,” and “farther” are examples. “Face the fear” and “suffering for backace” are also not natural collocations in this context. Aim to check spelling carefully and learn common phrases as complete units, such as “overcome your fear” and “suffer from back pain.” More precise vocabulary would make the advice sound more fluent and assured.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the reason introduced by “as” and the conditional idea in “this way you will be a good swimmer.” Most of the message remains easy to understand, and the paragraphs contain several clear sentences. Some grammatical errors are present, however. For example, “I'm would be delighted” combines incompatible verb forms, and “help you choosing” should use an infinitive after “help.” In “the new pool that has been opened last month,” the present perfect does not fit the finished time reference; use the past simple. Review verb patterns, tense choice with finished time expressions, and sentence boundaries, particularly where two ideas are joined with a comma.
