Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sneha

How are you? I hope you are doing well. I was so glad to hear from you about my advice to learn a new game.

Nowadays, it is the better option for human beings to participate in curriculum activities in order to stay fit and healthy. As we had spend most of the time of our life together so I understand you better than others. I would recommend cricket for you. It has various benefits such as playing in a team, stay physically and mentally healthy.

The one and the only way to learn this sport is by joining an academy. I will share the contact of one of my friends who he is running a Sports Centre. Cricket involves basic rules which will be taught in the academy. Other than that, you can practice at home with your siblings.

Moreover, I am also planning to catch you next week. We can also decide to learn this sport together. However, it will give us opportunity to spend some time together.

Best wishes to your family and write me back whenever you get time.

Yours lovingly,

Jasmeen Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you recommend cricket, explain that your friend could join an academy and practise at home, and invite your friend to learn with you. The advice is relevant and the friendly closing suits an email to someone you know. Some details, however, are less fully developed: the benefits of cricket are listed briefly, and the academy suggestion would be more useful with practical information such as where it is or how to contact it. The invitation to learn together is clear, but “planning to catch you next week” does not explain how you would arrange the lessons. Add a little specific support to each suggestion to make the advice more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The email has a clear overall sequence: greeting and context, recommendation, learning advice, then an invitation and closing. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “Other than that” and “Moreover” show how ideas relate. At times, however, the connections feel mechanical or the reference is unclear. For example, “I was so glad to hear from you about my advice” is difficult to follow, and “However” does not express a contrast between the invitation and the previous sentence. Use more direct transitions and make each paragraph develop one connected point. This would strengthen the progression while preserving the generally coherent organisation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the recommendation and practical advice, including “academy,” “basic rules,” and “physically and mentally healthy.” The tone is generally appropriate for a friendly email. However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably unnatural or imprecise, such as “curriculum activities” for sport or exercise, “catch you” for meeting a friend, and “learn a new game” when the task refers to a sport. “The one and the only way” is also unnecessarily emphatic, especially as you then suggest practising at home. Choose more natural expressions and vary the vocabulary around learning and playing cricket; this will make the message clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including the reason introduced by “as” and the relative clause about your friend’s contact. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make a sentence awkward. For example, “As we had spend” has an incorrect verb form, “playing in a team, stay physically…” does not maintain a parallel structure, and “a friend who he is running” uses an unnecessary subject pronoun. There are also issues with articles and sentence construction in “it will give us opportunity.” Review past-tense forms, relative clauses, and agreement between items in lists. More accurate control of these patterns would improve the range you are already attempting.
