Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Raman,
I hope you are doing well. I am glad to hear that you want to learn new sport. I think it would be grat way to stay healthy and have fun at the same time.
In my opinion , badminton would be a suitable sport for you to try. It is an enjoyable game that can be played indoors or outdoors.Mporeover, it is good way to improve your speed, balance and coordination.
You could learn badmintion by joining a beginners's calssat uour local sport centre. The coach would teach you the basic rules, how to hold the racket and how to sereve corectly. You could also watch some online videos to practice the techniques at home.Furthermore, you can improve your basics skills.
So, I think it would be more enjoyable if we learned as a team. we could go to sport centre twice a week and practice together.
I hope we will meet very soon.
Best regards,
Gurpreet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you recommend badminton, explain that Raman could join a beginner class and use online videos, and invite him to practise with you twice a week. The advice is relevant and the friendly tone suits an email to someone you know. You also give useful supporting details, such as learning the rules and how to hold and serve with a racket. To make the ideas more fully developed, explain briefly why badminton suits Raman in particular, or add a practical detail about where or when you could attend lessons together. Overall, the purpose and requested content are clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The email has a clear progression: greeting and opening, sport recommendation, learning advice, an invitation to practise, and a closing. Paragraphing helps the reader follow each part, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “So” connect ideas. The sequence from joining a class to practising at home is also logical. At times, however, the links feel slightly mechanical, and the final paragraph moves quickly from the suggestion to the closing. You could improve the flow by connecting the shared-practice plan more explicitly to the earlier advice—for example, by saying you could attend the beginner class together and then practise the skills.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the advice, including relevant terms such as “coordination,” “basic rules,” “racket,” and “techniques.” The language is generally appropriate for a friendly email, and the reader can understand your recommendation. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word forms are noticeable, including “grat,” “Mporeover,” “badmintion,” “calssat,” and “sereve.” Some phrases are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “improve your basics skills” and “learned as a team.” These issues limit the accuracy and flexibility of your vocabulary. Check spelling carefully and choose more natural collocations, such as “improve your basic skills” and “learn together.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple sentences and some longer structures, including “I think it would be a great way to stay healthy and have fun at the same time” and the sentence explaining what the coach would teach. The main message remains understandable. However, grammatical control is inconsistent: articles are missing in “learn new sport” and “it is good way,” and the invitation begins with a lowercase “we” after a full stop. There are also errors in sentence construction and punctuation, such as the spacing around commas and the run-together sentence ending “at home.Furthermore.” Aim to proofread articles, sentence boundaries, and capitalisation, while continuing to practise accurate complex sentences.
