Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Manan,
Hope you are doing good. I am glad that you asked my advice about learning a new sport in our town and I am very happy to suggest as well as talk with you regarding this topic.
Recently, a new sports called squash have been started in our sports complex. It is a two player game where each player has to hit the ball in the front wall and the another player should hit the ball before it touches the ground. A lot of my friends have started learning as well as playing the squash.
It is very easy game to learn. All you have to keep eye on the ball and let it not touch the ground. Just give it a shot before it touches the ground. To be honest, I am also willing to play this sport so I suggest you to play this new sports together at the sports complex from next Monday. I am excited to learn as well as play squash with you buddy.
Yours friendly,
Yatharth

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: squash is recommended, you describe its basic aim, and you invite Manan to play with you at the sports complex from next Monday. The friendly tone and direct invitation suit an email to a friend. The explanation of how to learn the sport is less fully developed, however: “keep eye on the ball” and “give it a shot” describe basic play rather than explaining how Manan could learn, such as joining a beginner session or getting coaching. The sport’s suitability is also asserted rather than explained. To strengthen the response, give a practical learning route and a reason squash would suit your friend, while retaining the clear recommendation and shared plan.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The email has a clear progression from greeting and purpose, to introducing squash, to explaining the game and proposing that you play together. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and links such as “Recently,” “To be honest,” and “so” help connect ideas. The reader can follow the main message without difficulty. Some connections are less smooth: the description of the rules moves abruptly into “It is very easy game to learn,” and the repeated references to learning and playing make the final paragraph feel slightly repetitive. A more deliberate transition from the sport’s rules to specific ways to learn it would improve flow, while varying the linking and avoiding repeated ideas would make cohesion more flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the recommendation, including “sports complex,” “two player game,” “front wall,” and “touches the ground.” The informal expressions “give it a shot” and “buddy” also help establish a friendly relationship, although the former is vague in this context. However, several word-choice and collocation problems are noticeable, including “a new sports,” “play the squash,” and “talk with you regarding this topic.” These reduce naturalness and precision, even though the overall meaning remains clear. Aim for more accurate sport-related phrasing and a wider range of expressions for lessons, practice, and equipment; for example, explain that a beginner can attend a session or practise with a partner.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple statements and longer structures, such as “I am glad that you asked my advice … and I am very happy to suggest…,” so there is some variety. The message is generally understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, and verb forms are evident. For example, “a new sports … have been started” should use a singular noun and matching verb, while “It is very easy game” needs an article. In “each player has to hit the ball … and the another player should hit,” the article use is inaccurate. The closing “Yours friendly” also shows difficulty forming the intended grammatical phrase. Review singular/plural agreement and article use, and check each sentence for a complete, natural grammatical pattern.
