Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Tina,
I hope you are doing well! It's greatful to hear that you're looking for a new sport! I would be very happy to give some advice on it.
I would strongly suggest cricket because its completely suits on your personality. You are an extroverted person, and this game is played in a team. Plus, physical strength is necessary for it, and you always goes to the gym everyday.
You could start learning basic rules through online, such as watching YouTube videos and reading information about it from the internet.
If you are interested in playing this game, we can join a local sport academy to improve our performance. Actually, I am planning to practise the same sport in my summer vaction. This the way, we have a chance of spending time together.
I can't wait to see you soon! Just give me a ring and let me know about your plan.
Kind regards,
Raj

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You address all three requirements clearly: you recommend cricket, explain that Tina can learn the rules through videos and online reading, and invite her to join a local academy with you. The advice is relevant and your friendly purpose is clear throughout. You also support the recommendation with personal details, such as Tina being extroverted and going to the gym. To make the ideas more fully developed, explain why cricket would suit her beyond these brief points, and give a little more practical detail about learning—for example, how often the academy meets or what beginners would practise. The invitation is clear, though the plan to practise in summer could be connected more directly to a specific next step.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The email has a clear progression: greeting and purpose, recommendation, learning method, shared plan, and a friendly closing. Paragraph breaks help the reader follow these stages, and links such as “Plus” and “If you are interested” make the relationships between ideas clear. The overall organisation is effective, but some connections could be smoother and more precise. For example, “This the way” does not clearly express the link between practising together and spending time together, and the transition from online learning to joining an academy is quite abrupt. Use a clearer linking phrase and explain how the two learning methods fit together to strengthen the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for a friendly email and communicates the main ideas, with useful task-related expressions such as “team,” “basic rules,” “local sport academy,” and “improve our performance.” The tone is appropriately warm, and phrases such as “give me a ring” suit an informal message. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “completely suits on your personality,” “through online,” and “practise the same sport in my summer vaction.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling and word forms before finishing; this will make your advice sound more fluent and assured.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple sentences and more developed structures, including the reason introduced by “because” and the conditional opening “If you are interested in playing this game.” Most ideas remain easy to understand, and the email includes a range of sentence purposes. Some grammatical errors remain, however: “its completely suits” has an incorrect subject and verb pattern, “you always goes” has subject–verb disagreement, and “This the way” is missing a verb. There are also issues with articles and prepositions in phrases such as “join a local sport academy.” Review agreement, complete sentence structure, and article use, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
