Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Aman,
I hope you're doing well. I'm just writing to give you advice on a new sport that you are planning to learn in the future.
I'd like to recommend you a cricket because I know you're aware of all rules and regulations of this game, and you've always shown interest in this particular sport.
Learning this game would be quite easy for you in the supervision of experienced coach. Last year, I had practiced regularly in Maharani Stadium which is located in Patiala close to my house. The coach named Ravinder Singh has 10 years experience who trains athletes with proper guidance, which would help you to improve your skills including teamwork, decision-making, problem-solving, patience and even boost your confidence.
I'd like to suggest you if you don't mind that I am also ready to join this sport with you. After I finish my exams, we can start together next month.
I hope this advice is helpful. Anyway, feel free to contact me if you need more information.
Best wishes,
Raman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The email addresses all three requirements clearly: cricket is recommended, the writer explains that Aman could train with an experienced coach at Maharani Stadium, and proposes joining him after exams next month. The reasons are relevant and personalised, especially the reference to Aman's interest and familiarity with the rules. The coach's experience and the skills training also give useful support. To make the advice more fully developed, explain a little more about how Aman would begin—for example, how to contact the coach or what equipment or beginner sessions are available. The invitation to learn together is clear, though it could include a specific shared plan.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The message follows a clear progression from its purpose, to the sport and learning arrangements, and then to the invitation and closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “Last year” and “After I finish my exams” make the sequence easy to follow. The friendly opening and sign-off also suit an email to a friend. Some linking is slightly mechanical, particularly the repeated “I'd like to” constructions, and the long sentence about the coach and the benefits of training carries several ideas at once. Varying the transitions and separating that sentence would make the progression smoother and the relationships between details clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task and includes some useful, specific terms, such as “experienced coach,” “teamwork,” “decision-making,” and “boost your confidence.” These choices help explain the benefits of learning cricket. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural collocations that limit precision: “recommend you a cricket,” “in the supervision of experienced coach,” and “10 years experience.” The phrase “rules and regulations” is also more formal and repetitive than needed in this friendly email. Aim to learn common word partnerships and choose wording that matches the informal context; this would make the message sound more fluent while retaining its clear meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “which is located in Patiala close to my house” and a conditional phrase in “if you don't mind.” The message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “recommend you a cricket” needs a different sentence pattern, and “in the supervision of experienced coach” is missing an article and uses an unsuitable preposition. In “The coach named Ravinder Singh has 10 years experience who trains…,” the relative clause is attached unclearly; splitting this into two sentences would help. Review articles, verb forms such as “had practiced,” and clause structure to improve accuracy.
