Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Amit,
I hope you are doing well. I got very excited when I heard that you want to learn a new sport and need my advice on it.
I would suggest you to try cricket because it is similar to baseball in which you are expert. It will help you to learn team work and decision making skills. Moreover, the majority of youth play the same sport in our town so it will be easy for you to make new friends.
There is a famous cricket coaching academy in our town called as Aman cricket academy. It is run by a ex-professional cricketer who had played a lot of international cricket in his career. By joining the academy you will be able to learn better under his guidance.
Actually, I was also planning to join the same academy as I have also developed interest to learn this sport from past few weeks. It will be better idea to catch up in the evenings after work and to learn new skill together.
I hope you will like my suggestion and idea of joining the academy. See you soon.
Best wishes
Ankit

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The email addresses all three requirements clearly: you recommend cricket, explain that Amit could learn at Aman Cricket Academy, and invite him to join you. The reasons for choosing cricket are relevant and personalised, especially the comparison with baseball and the opportunity to meet local players. You also explain why the academy may be suitable by mentioning its experienced coach. These ideas are developed well enough to make the advice convincing and the friendly purpose is clear throughout. To make the explanation even more complete, you could add a practical detail about how to enrol or what beginners’ lessons involve; this would strengthen the learning plan rather than leaving it mainly at the suggestion to join the academy.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The message follows a clear progression: you introduce the topic, recommend a sport, describe where Amit can learn it, and then suggest learning together. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, while phrases such as “Moreover” and “Actually” connect related points. The opening and closing also suit a friendly email. Some links are a little mechanical, and the final paragraph repeats the idea of joining the academy and learning together without adding much new information. You could make the progression more fluid by linking the academy details directly to your shared plan, and by varying transitions rather than relying on a small set of signposting phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task and communicates the advice clearly. Phrases such as “international cricket,” “under his guidance,” and “developed interest” show attempts to use more specific language, and the reader can understand your meaning throughout. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “learn team work,” “catch up” for arranging lessons, and “a famous cricket coaching academy.” There is also repetition of “learn” and “sport.” Aim for more natural combinations and precise wording, particularly when describing skills and making plans. For example, “develop teamwork and decision-making skills” and “attend evening sessions together” would express your ideas more idiomatically.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “because it is similar to baseball in which you are expert” and the conditional idea “By joining the academy you will be able to learn.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. Examples include “I would suggest you to try” (use “suggest that you try”), “a ex-professional” (use “an ex-professional”), and “from past few weeks” (use “for the past few weeks”). The sentence beginning “It will be better idea” also needs an article: “It will be a better idea.” Check articles, verb patterns after “suggest,” and prepositions, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
