Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Rohan,
I got your letter asking about learning about a new sport in the town. I personally feel you should start learning basketball. It will add to your physical and mental well-being.
Since we share the same town you might have sensed the popularity of basketball in the town. The council supports basketall and they also organize annual tournaments. The Sport centre offers regular training, expert trainers and the fully equipped basketball court.
For further information and joining process you can reach out the head of sports centre. He works 5 days a week in the office located on the ground floor of the sports centre. They offer 2 days free trial to introduce you to the sport and its learning process. The schedule of the basketball training is very flexible in the evenings. You can select slot of time as per your convinience.
I have been learning basketball for more than 2 months now and my experience has been valuable. I have felt more active, happier, and made new friends. If you feel comfortable you can join me for the sessions at 6.30 PM on Saturday and Sunday. We will be able to share the learning together and enjoy our time.
So, you can let me know your further decision. I will be happy to help anyways.
Love,
Aakansha

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The email covers all three requirements clearly: basketball is recommended, practical ways to learn it are explained, and the writer invites Rohan to join weekend sessions. The advice is well supported with relevant details, including the sports centre’s trainers, free trial, flexible evening schedule, and the writer’s own positive experience. The invitation to attend at 6.30 PM on Saturday and Sunday makes the suggestion especially concrete. The purpose and friendly relationship are maintained throughout, with an appropriate greeting and sign-off. To make the advice even more complete, the writer could briefly explain why basketball is particularly suitable for Rohan, rather than mainly describing its popularity and benefits in general. Overall, the task is addressed fully and the ideas are developed effectively, with only a small opportunity for more personalised justification.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The message follows a clear progression: it introduces the recommendation, describes local opportunities to learn, gives practical joining information, and ends with a personal invitation. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and links such as “Since,” “For further information,” and “If you feel comfortable” help the reader follow the advice. The closing also fits the informal email format. Some connections are slightly mechanical or repetitive, particularly the repeated references to “the town” and “the sport,” and “So” introduces the final request rather abruptly. More varied referencing and a smoother transition into the closing would make cohesion more flexible. Nevertheless, the organisation is consistently clear and the reader can readily understand how each point relates to the recommendation.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task and includes some useful topic-specific language, such as “expert trainers,” “fully equipped basketball court,” “free trial,” and “flexible” training times. The writer also uses positive language to describe personal benefits, including “more active” and “happier.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “learning about a new sport,” “reach out the head,” and “share the learning together” do not sound natural in this context. There are also spelling errors in “basketall” and “convinience.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit the precision and control of the vocabulary. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully, especially in practical instructions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The email uses a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the conditional “If you feel comfortable you can join me” and the relative clause “who works 5 days a week.” Most ideas remain easy to understand, and the writer handles the overall sequence of advice clearly. Some grammatical errors remain, however. For example, “reach out the head” needs a preposition after “reach out,” while “You can select slot of time” needs an article or a plural form. “I have felt more active, happier, and made new friends” also has an uneven structure because the final item does not match the first two. These are generally minor and do not impede communication. More consistent article use and parallel sentence structures would strengthen accuracy.
