Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Riya,
Hope you're doing splendindly! It's been ages since we've caught up with each other. I was thrilled when I got a call from you regarding your interest in learning a new sport.
Well! I know you're someone who enjoys outdoor activities, hence badminton would be a great fit for you . Since you are fitness lover, playing badminton will helps you stay fit and healthy. Although most of the activities are expensive to learn, this sport is budget- friendly.
In order to learn this sport you can watch various videos online. Also you can hire a personal trainer to guide you well. If you want I can suggest you some good coaches.
I am also thinking of joining you in this activity because I am having summer break from college. I think it's better to have a good company rather than doing something alone.
Looking forward to seeing you soon.
with regard,
Harjot Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requested points: you recommend badminton, explain that Riya could use online videos or a personal trainer, and invite her to join you. The recommendation is supported with relevant reasons, including her interest in outdoor activities and the sport’s fitness benefits and affordability. Your offer to suggest coaches also makes the advice practical. The invitation to learn together is clear, and the friendly opening and closing suit an email to a friend. To make the ideas more fully developed, explain briefly why badminton would suit her in particular or give a concrete first step, such as trying a beginner class together. Overall, the response is relevant and its purpose remains clear.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The email follows a clear progression: you respond to your friend’s interest, recommend a sport, explain ways to learn it, and then suggest joining in together. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, while phrases such as “In order to learn this sport” and “I am also thinking” guide the reader through the message. The ideas are easy to follow, and the closing provides a natural ending. Some links are a little mechanical or abrupt: “Well!” introduces the recommendation suddenly, and “Also” simply adds another learning option. You could make the flow more natural by connecting the advice to your offer—for example, saying you could look at beginner classes together before mentioning a coach.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for a friendly email and includes useful expressions such as “outdoor activities,” “personal trainer,” and “good company.” These choices communicate the advice clearly, and the tone is generally warm. There are, however, some spelling and word-choice or collocation slips that limit precision: “splendindly” is misspelled, “budget-friendly” is awkwardly separated, and “doing something alone” is less natural here than “learning on your own.” “Enjoys outdoor activities” also does not quite establish why badminton specifically suits Riya. Aim for accurate, natural combinations and a little more precise vocabulary about beginner lessons, equipment, or practice. This would make the message sound more fluent without losing its friendly style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the reason clause in “because I am having summer break from college” and the contrast introduced by “Although.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. For example, “playing badminton will helps” should be “playing badminton will help,” and “you are fitness lover” needs an article: “you are a fitness lover.” In “I am having summer break,” the present simple (“I have a summer break”) is more appropriate for this situation. Punctuation and sentence boundaries also need attention, particularly the comma splice in “Well! I know…” and the lowercase closing “with regard.” Checking verb forms, articles, and punctuation would improve accuracy.
