Student answer (Band 6.5)

The debate surrounding the gender equality in certain professions has gained significant attention in recent years. Many argue that in many working fields, men are dominating whereas females are surpressed due to their weak biological structure compared to men. I believe that certain professions are risky and not compatible for females to survive.

One significant point for consideration is an example of the field of armed forces, in army females would require immense physical fitness and the capacity to hold around 40 kilogram of weight while in combat. Moreover, it becomes necessary to match the fitness and strength levels with the males which is nearly to impossible mainly in hand to hand combat with nation's enemy.

Another perspective for addition is that there are numerous other jobs which are not only risky but require courage and enormous strength. However, this does not mean to exclude any of the gender. For example, if a woman can match the extreme features of a male army officer then she has all the rights to become an officer. Conversely, incase a woman is not able to meet the strength and fitness compared to a male then they have to drop them from the field.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that gender equality requires equality of work capacities in a particular profession. If females are able to match the efficiency with men then they should not be excluded and will equally be treated. In my opinion, female biology is made differently in comparison to men, they should opt to work in their suitable enovironment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response is completely off-topic. The task required a report on a diagram showing the manufacturing process of sugar from sugar cane. Instead, the student wrote an argumentative essay about gender equality in the armed forces. As the response fails to address the prompt entirely, it cannot be assessed against the criteria for an Academic Task 1 report. In an official IELTS examination, this would be marked as a non-attempt or off-topic response, resulting in a score of 1.0 for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

Although the response is off-topic, the internal structure is coherent. The student uses paragraphing effectively to separate ideas and employs cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Another perspective', and 'In conclusion' to link sentences. The progression of ideas is logical within the context of the essay provided, even though the content is irrelevant to the task instructions.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for expressing opinions on a social topic. The student uses words like 'surpressed', 'compatible', 'combat', and 'efficiency'. There are some minor errors, such as 'enovironment' (spelling) and 'surpressed' (should be 'suppressed'). The range is sufficient to convey the writer's meaning clearly, though it lacks the specific technical vocabulary required for a process description task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the gender equality' (unnecessary article), 'not compatible for females' (preposition error), and 'they have to drop them' (vague pronoun reference). However, these errors do not generally impede communication. The control of punctuation is generally acceptable, though the sentence structure is occasionally repetitive.
