Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response covers all stages of the process, from growing the sugar cane to the final storage. The overview provides a clear summary of the number of stages and the start and end points, which is a positive feature. However, the description of the process is somewhat mechanical and lacks a more analytical approach to the 'main features' or comparisons. For instance, the distinction between manual and mechanical harvesting is mentioned, but the flow between the purification and evaporation stages could be more clearly linked to show the transformation of the product. The response is accurate in its reporting of the diagram's information.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs detailing the process. Cohesive devices such as 'Initially', 'Then', 'Next', and 'Finally' are used to guide the reader through the sequence of events. However, some transitions feel slightly repetitive or mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, though the final paragraph is quite short. The use of referencing is generally clear, but there are minor issues with punctuation around these cohesive devices, such as missing spaces after commas (e.g., 'Overall, the', 'Initially, the'), which slightly affects the flow of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, with terms like 'centrifugation', 'evaporation', and 'purified' used correctly to describe the technical process. There are some instances of awkward phrasing or word choice, such as 'the sugar cane had planted' (should be 'is planted') and 'by the help humans' (should be 'by human labor'). While the range is sufficient to convey the meaning, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score. Spelling is generally accurate, but the word choice is occasionally imprecise, which limits the overall impact of the description.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that, while not impeding communication, are noticeable. Examples include tense inconsistencies ('the sugar cane had planted' instead of 'is planted'), missing articles ('by the help humans'), and awkward passive constructions ('where is crushing takes place'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly regarding spacing after commas and periods. While the writer attempts complex structures, the control over these is not consistent, leading to a range of errors that prevent the writing from reaching a higher band.
