How sugar is produced from sugar cane
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The schematic diagram illustrate how the sugar is made from sugar canes and also describes the diiferent types of process involved.
Overall, it is apperant that it is a linear process and includes 7 stages with different type of operations. The process starts with growing and harvesting the sugar canes, eventually followed by drying and cooling to make the sugar.
To begin with, the making process of sugar begin with growing the sugar canes at the farm approximately for 18 months followed by harvesting the sugar canes with two different methods either by advanced machinery and equipments attached with tractor or by mannually with labours, then the crushing process takes the place where the sugar canes get crushed between two rollers to make juice.
The next stage is purifying the juice with the specific limestone filter. The purified juice then heated up to specific temperature and time in evaporator as a result the juice becomes syrup. The centrifuge sperates the sugar crystals from syrup. The final stage is drying and cooling of the syrup in case to achieve the actual suagr what we see on regular basis.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully identified the main stages of the sugar production process. You provided a clear overview and followed the sequence logically from harvesting to the final product. However, the response could be improved by highlighting key comparisons or specific features more explicitly, such as the two distinct methods of harvesting. While you mentioned them, a more detailed contrast would enhance the analysis. You have covered all parts of the task well, and the information is accurate based on the provided diagram. To reach a higher band, ensure that the 'main features' are highlighted with more analytical language rather than just listing the steps sequentially.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. You used cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'The next stage', and 'as a result' to guide the reader through the process. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more balanced. For instance, the second body paragraph is quite dense compared to the first. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between the stages would help the flow of the text. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the process, using terms like 'schematic diagram', 'purifying', 'evaporator', and 'centrifuge'. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'apperant' instead of 'apparent', 'diiferent' instead of 'different', and 'suagr' instead of 'sugar'. Additionally, some word choices are slightly awkward, such as 'takes the place' instead of 'takes place'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from being considered sophisticated. Focusing on accurate spelling and more precise collocations will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'The schematic diagram illustrate' (subject-verb agreement) and 'the making process of sugar begin' (should be 'begins'). You also have some issues with articles and prepositions, such as 'by mannually with labours' which is grammatically incorrect. While you attempt complex sentences, the accuracy is inconsistent. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice, which is essential for process descriptions. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the response.
