The diagram below shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

How sugar is produced from sugar cane

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The provided process chart illustrates that how sugar is formed from sugar cane.

Overall. it is crystal clear that there are seven steps covered in this process chart commencing from growing sugar canes and culminating with centrifuge, which have to be followed to produce sugar from sugarcane.

At a fleeting glance, in first step sugar canes are grown for 12-18 months. After their full growth in next step, sugar canes harvested and to do this their are two methods, one is with machine and another is by hand. In next phase, sugar canes are sent for crushing. In this, sugar canes are converted into juice. In further step, juice is purified with the help of limestone filter.

Moving ahead, in next move evaporation process takes place in which juice becomes syrup by heating. In subsequent step, separation of sugar crystals from syrup is held which is called centrifuge. In last step, finally sugar is kept for drying and cooling and sugar is prepared.
