Student answer (Band 7.0)

This diagram illustrates different stages in the process of making sugar from sugarcane.

Overall, the making of sugar from sugarcane involves seven different steps. Starting from farming sugarcane it takes several different stages to produce sugar including industrial processing of sugarcane.

First of all sugarcane crops take 12 to 18 months to grow which later harvested with help of machines and man-power. In the third step, sugarcanes are to obtain sugarcane juice. In the fourth step sugarcane juice is transported to a filtering plant with a limestone filter. After filtration the purified juice is then heated in a specialized container called evaporator which results increases the viscosity of the sugarcane juice and turn it into a syrup.From evaporator the sugar syrup is sent to another machine known as centrifuge which separates sugar crystals from the syrup. In last, the separated sugar is allowed to cool and dry. This is how we obtained sugar as a finished product once it is dried.
