The diagram below shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram displays the process of sugar production from sugar cane.

Overall, the process consists of seven whole steps from growing sugar canes in fields to convert them into sugar.

Firstly, the seeds of sugar cane grows to its peak in a period of 12 to 18 months then these canes are harvested either by men or by giant harvesting machine. Which automatically cuts down the plants and then these are collected in a storage container.

Then these sugar canes are brought to the factories in order to get juice by crushing them. The juice is then purified with the help of limestone filter to make sure that there is no impurity left in the solution. Moving on, this juice is sent into an evaporator from which it becomes syrup by heating the whole juice on fire.

Further, the liquid syrup is centrifuged at a very high speed motion in order to separate the sugar crystals from the syrup. On last, by cooling and drying it we get our desired product sugar.
