The diagram below shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

How sugar is produced from sugar cane

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The provided schematic diagram illustrates the production process of sugar from sugar cane. The process includes 7 main steps, starts with the growing of sugar cane and ends with drying and cooling of sugar.

Overall, this process starts with the growing of sugar cane and after harvesting these sugar canes, the purify juice is obtained, which is used to produce sugar.

Once the sugar canes have been grown sufficiently, they are harvested by famers and by heavy machinery. The next step is the crushing of these sugar canes and obtaining the fresh and pure juice.

Later on, the juice is purified by a limestone filter. After this step, the juice passed through the evaporator and it converted the juice into syrup. The syrup is then used to centrifuge at a high speed which separates the sugar crystal from it. Now, we obtained the pure sugar. The final step is the drying and cooling of this sugar.
