The diagram below shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The presented diagram illustrates the whole process involved in production of sugar from a naturally grown sugar cane.

Overall, the entire process consists of several stages. It is a natural cyclic procedure. The manufacturing of sugar starts from its growth and harvesting and ends at the storing of prepared sugar.

At the Beginning of the cycle sugar cane is grown from about 12-15 months in the agricultural land. Then on the second stage it is harvested through a force of farmers manually and also by using harvesting or cutting machines. Following this at the third step this harvested sugar cane is crushed for collecting juice.

After compeletion of the half process this juice is purified to separate impurities. this filtration is carried out by using limestone filter. The filtered juice is heated on high pitch in an evaporator in order to convert this into syrup.

In the final stage the liquid syrup is converted into sugar crystals by rotating it in a centrifuge. This mechanism ends at drying and cooling these crystals. Hence, sugar is stored and exported to the market for consumption.
