The diagram below shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

How sugar is produced from sugar cane

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram illustrates the process used to produce sugarcane from sugar.

Overall, it is linear production consisting of seven stages begining with growing of sugarcane and ending with drying and cooling of end finished product.

Firstly, the sugarcane grown in farm which was taken around 12 to 18 months before harvesting. Next, sugarcane can harvested by two methods, the first cutting was performed by the farmer and the second was by lorry. This harvested sugarcane was transferred into a machine where tha larger sugarcane convert into crushed formed and then into juice.

Furthermore, the extractd juice was passed through limestone filter paper where the big particles strain and juice become purified. This purifies juice was transferred into the evaporator where excess water remove and juice was transferred into thick form called syrup. This thick liquid passed into the centrifuge machine which separated the residue and liquid in the bottom and top respectively. After this, sugar crystals was dried and colled to achieved the final product which delivered it to market.
