The diagram below shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram illustrates the process of producing sugar from sugar cane.

Overall, it is a linear process which consist of seven distinct steps. The first three steps consist of extracting juice from the sugar cane. In the remaining steps extracted juice is then processed and refined.

Firstly, the sugar cane is cultivated for 12 to 18 months till it reaches maturity. After it has reached maturity. It’s time to harvest it. To harvest the matured sugar cane, two methods can be used: through workers and using machines.

The harvested canes then send to the crushing section to convert it into juice. With the help of limestone filter the juice extract from crusher is filtered. Furthermore, after filtration the to thicken the juice evaporator is used. Evaporator heat the juice in that way excessive water exits and we get thicken juice which is called syrup. After this, centrifuge is used to separate the sugar crystals from the syrup. In the final stage, the hot sugar is get dried and cold.

To improve, focus on using more precise technical collocations and ensure that your word forms (adjectives vs. verbs) are used correctly in context.
