The diagram below illustrates the manufactureing process for making sugar from sugar cane.

Overall, the process consists of seven distinct stages which are growing, harvesting, crushing, purifying juice, evaporator, centrifuge and drying and cooling. The process starts with growing sugar canes and ends with drying and cooling.

Firstly, sugar canes grow naturally over a period of 12 to 18 months. These mature sugar canes are harvested by two methods mechanically using heavy machinery or manually by hands. Machines cuts sugar can very fastly as compared to manually by hands. Secondly, harvested stalks are fed into a crushing machine to extract raw juice.

Then, purification method, the extracted raw juice passes through limestone filter to remove impurities. After that, the purified juice is heated in an evaporator to make liquid juice into a thick syrup. Later on, the syrup is passed enters a centrifuge, which separates solid sugar crystals from syrup. Finally, the sugar crystals are moved for drying and cooling phase, resulted in finished sugar ready for consumption.
