The diagram below shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

How sugar is produced from sugar cane

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The figure elucidates the process of sugar from sugarcane.

Overall, the whole process from converting sugar from sugarcane is around seven steps.

Firstly, sugarcane takes 12 to 18 months to grow from seeds to the plants. After they grew completely, it can be harvested in two ways such as, a farmer harvest with his hands, or it can be harvested by using big machines. When the process of harvesting is completed, the sugarcanes can be put into a machine from which juice comes outside as an output which is furtuer purified using a filter called as limestion filter.

Moreover, after purifying juice, the process of evaporation takes place in which a juice becomes syrup by evaporating the juice in a machine known as evaporator. Afterwards, the round of centrifuge takes place, in which sugar gets separated from syrup. At last, the sugar separated from the syrup, it got dries up and cooled so that proper sugar can be made.
