The diagram below shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

How sugar is produced from sugar cane

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram illustrate seven stages that are involved in the production of sugar cane .

Overall, the procedures that are involved in the planting of sugar cane are from growing, harvesting, crushing, purifying, evaporation, centrifuge and lastly, drying of sugar for consumption.

Firstly, the sugar cane is planted on the ground for a period of about (12-18 months). Soon after that, period it is can be harvested either by a combined harvester or by manual labour of humans. Thirdly, the sugar can is then crushed to so that it excrete juice. As a result, juice is then filtered in a purifying limestone filter to remove impurities.

Moreover, the juice then send to an Evaporator that has fire beneath to heat the juice so that it becomes syrup. Which will be then transferred to a centrifuge which inturn separate sugar crystals from syrup. Lastly, the crystals will be placed into a container, which allows it to cool and then dry to form sugar cane.
