The diagram depicts the manufacturing process of producing sugar from sugar cane.
Overall, it is clear that the process consists of seven stages, starting with the growing of sugar cane and ending with the drying and cooling of the sugar crystals. The process also involves crushing the sugar cane to extract juice, followed by several stages of purification and processing.
First, sugar cane takes 12–18 months to grow. Once it has fully grown, it is harvested either mechanically or by hand. It is then crushed in a machine to extract the juice. After that, the juice passes through a limestone filter in order to be purified.
In the next stage, the purified juice is heated in an evaporator. As heat is applied from below, the juice is converted into syrup. In the sixth stage, the syrup is passed through a centrifuge, where the sugar crystals are separated from the remaining syrup. Finally, the sugar crystals are dried and cooled, completing the manufacturing process.
