The diagram below shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

How sugar is produced from sugar cane

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram illustrates the process of making sugar from sugar cane.

Overall, it is a linear process it consists of seven stages. This process begin with the cultivation of sugar cane and ending with the dried and cooled crystals of sugar.

Firstly, sugar cane plant is growing in the suitable duration of growth approximately 12 to 18 months. Then, once their growth is completed it is harvested by the either manually, cutting the stalks by the farmer's hand or mechanically by the harvesting machine. Moreover, this stalks are pressed by the crushing machine and transferred to a juice. Furthermore, this juice is purified through limestone filter, removing impurity.

In the final state, this juice is passed through an evaporator and juice become thicker and converted into syrup form. Subsequently, syrup entered into a centrifuge machine which spins into a rapidly and as a result sugar crystals separated from syrup. To conclude, we dried and cooled the crystals of sugar. Finally, which are ready to use.
