The diagram below shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given process chart depicts the information about the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane.

Overall, it is crystal clear that there are seven distinct steps in this diagram while it starts from growing sugar canes and ended up at drying and cooling.

At a fleeting glance, farmers produced sugar cane in first stage which require 12-18 months to grow. The second step is harvesting of crops by two different methods such as by cutting the crops by hand or using machines to harvest sugar cane. Moreover, the third stage of this process is crushing the sugar canes through the machine and convert sugar cane stems into juice. Another step in the diagram was purifying the juice extracted during the crushing process.

Moving further, after purifying the juice it evaporate by using heat and juice become syrup after evaporation. The second last step of this process was centrifuge which separates sugar crystals from syrup. Lastly, it is ended up by drying and cooling the sugar in the container.
