The diagram illustrates the process by which sugar is produced from sugar cane, from initial cultivation to the final packaged product.

Overall, the process consists of seven stages, beginning with the growing of sugar cane and ending with the drying and cooling of the finished sugar.

At the first stage, sugar cane is grown for a period of 12 to 18 months, after which it is harvested, either mechanically using a tractor or manually by hand. The harvested cane is then crushed by rollers to extract its juice.

Once the juice has been extracted, it is purified by passing it through a limestone filter to remove impurities. This purified juice is then transferred to an evaporator, where heat is applied from below until the liquid thickens into syrup. Following this, the syrup is spun rapidly in a centrifuge, a process which separates the raw sugar crystals from the remaining liquid. In the final stage, these crystals undergo drying and cooling, resulting in the finished sugar, which is then ready for use.
