Student answer (Band 6.5)

The diagram illustrates the step-by-step process of manufacturing sugar from sugar cane.

Overall, the process of manufacturing sugar from sugar cane involves seven steps which includes, growing, harvesting, crushing, purifying, evaporation, centrifuge and finally, drying and cooling.

The first step is the planting and growing of sugar cane and allowing them to mature, which is followed by harvesting of the matured sugar cane from the farm and transporting them to the processing plant by a harvesting truck. At the processing center, the sugar canes are well arranged accordingly where they are crushed by the crushing machine in order to squeeze out the juice which then undergoes purification through the limestone filter to remove impurities.

Additionally, the purified juice are poured into the evaporator where it is processed under intense heating till it becomes syrup and is further moved to a centrifuge plant where sugar crystals are separated from the syrup and lastly, the sugar crystals are transferred to the drying chamber where drying and cooling will take place. At this stage, the sugar manufacturing process is completed and ready for consumption.
