The diagram below shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

How sugar is produced from sugar cane

Student answer (Band 6.0)

This diagram depicts the manufacturing process of sugar with the help of sugar canes. This whole process comprises total seven steps beginning from the sugar canes and ending to sugar.

First of all, sugar canes take 12 to 18 months for fully grown. Afterwards, its harvesting takes place with the help of a harvester and also manually by hand. Following this, these sugar canes bring to a crushing machine, where its crushing is done with the help of crushers. After releasing juice from the crushers, this juice is purified with the help of a limestone filter. It is then, juice becomes syrup by heating the whole mixture and later this syrup is used to separate the sugar crystals from it with the help of a centrifugation machine. Finally, sugar is ready for exporting, before exporting make sure its dryness and cooling state.

To put it briefly, sugar is prepared through several steps. Fully grown sugar canes are used in the manufacturing and after passing many stages like crushing, filter, heating, centrifugation; the sugar is ready for household use and other purposes.
