Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The student attempts to describe the sugar manufacturing process, identifying key stages such as growing, harvesting, crushing, purifying, evaporating, and centrifuging. However, the response is incomplete and cuts off abruptly before describing the final drying and cooling stage. Furthermore, the word count is only 109 words, falling well short of the 150-word minimum requirement. While some main features are outlined, the lack of an overall summary and the truncated ending significantly impact task completion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text lacks proper paragraphing, presented instead as a single block of text. Cohesive devices are minimal and basic, relying heavily on repetitive transition phrases like 'after that'. There is a lack of punctuation, with the entire response functioning as a long, run-on sentence that finishes abruptly. This severely restricts the flow and readability of the information, leading to a low score for structural cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for describing a process, using terms like 'unit operation', 'machinery', 'impurities', 'evaporation', and 'centripetal force'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'lime stone', 'jucie', and 'dryi' (incomplete). While some less common vocabulary is attempted, errors in spelling and word formation prevent the lexical score from reaching higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical structure is extremely weak. The entire response consists of a single, continuous run-on sentence with no periods or correct punctuation to separate distinct clauses. There are also errors in verb forms and sentence construction, such as 'the process involve is centrifuge in which crystal of sugar is formed'. The lack of basic sentence boundaries and punctuation causes considerable difficulty for the reader.
