The diagram below shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

How sugar is produced from sugar cane

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram illustrate the process of making sugar from sugarcane and comprises of 7 stages.

Overall, the process consist of 7 different stages, begins with the growth and cultivation of sugar plant and ended by drying and cooling the final product of it.

In the beginning, large number of sugar cane plants are grown over a large area for about 12-18 months. This is followed by the harvesting of plants by two ways with the help of a machine or by a person. Subsequently, the large sticks of plants passed through a machine and lead to the formation of juice (a strong liquid material) with impurities. The process continued by purifying the juice with a filter containing limestone.

In the next stage, Juice is heated over high temprature to make it a strong thick syrup, followed by centrifuge where crystals of sugar are seprated from liquid from. Finally, the crystals are placed in a containet to become cool and dried lead to the formation of sugar
