The diagram below shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

How sugar is produced from sugar cane

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The pictoral diagram below illustrates the manufacturing process of sugar from sugarcane .

The process is initiated after 12 to 18 month growing period of sugar cane in agricultural fields ,afterwards takes the process of harvesting where the crop is harvested either manually or with the help of machinery , once the crop is harvested .It is collected and crushed using a crusher to extract all the sugar cane juice.

The juice is formed it is purified throgh a lime stone filter and send off for the commercial evaporation process under stove heat where it turns into a syrup consistency . The syrup then passes through a centrifuge machine that seprates the sugar crystals from the syrup followed by the final process of drying and cooling to remove moisture .

The best way to describe the process of sugar formationg would be as of these above mentioned steps of cultivating ,harvesting ,crushing ,purifying ,evaporation and centrifuge followed by drying and cooling preparing the sugar to be consumed industrially or domestically .
