Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by outlining the main stages of sugar production from growing to cooling and drying. An overview is provided, though it is somewhat brief. Key features such as harvesting methods, crushing, and the use of a limestone filter and evaporator are mentioned, but some of these ideas remain under-developed or lack specific detail. Additionally, the response falls short of the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, stopping at 120 words. To reach a higher level, the writer should expand further on the mechanisms and transformations at each stage of the process.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression following the steps of the diagram. The response is divided into an introduction, an overview, and a body section. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions between stages, such as 'Now, turning to the details', 'Futhermore', 'After that', and 'Finally'. However, some of these transitional links feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in structure. Referencing is generally clear, and paragraphing is used, though a more traditional multi-paragraph structure would improve the overall layout and flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
An adequate range of vocabulary is used for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific terms like 'sugar canes', 'harvesting', 'crushing', 'limestone filter', 'evaporator', and 'centrifuge'. The writer attempts less common vocabulary with varying degrees of success. There are some spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'machinary' instead of machinery and 'Futhermore', along with slightly unnatural phrasing like 'harvesting process done manually'. However, these lexical slips do not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response exhibits a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as 'Overall, it can be seen how sugar is produced and the process starts...'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('the sugar canes takes', 'harvesting process done') and subject-verb agreement issues ('there are process of separating... take place'). Despite these persistent errors, the structures used do not obscure the meaning, and communication is maintained.
