Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response only partially addresses the task and fails to meet the minimum length requirement, containing 128 words which falls short of the 150-word minimum (with 23 words copied directly from the prompt uncounted). While the student attempts to outline the stages of sugar production from growing to drying and cooling, the overview and description are overly basic and repetitive. Key features such as the dual harvesting methods (manual versus mechanical) and the specific transformation processes are mentioned only superficially. The position and information lack adequate development, keeping the response at this band level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates some basic organization with an introductory statement, body details, and a conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is disrupted by repetitive phrasing and inadequate paragraph structure. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and inaccurately, such as the repeated use of phrases like 'and start to' and 'Then evaporator'. Referencing between sentences is often weak, and the overall arrangement lacks the clear logical progression expected at higher bands.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, featuring basic terms related to the diagram such as 'growing', 'harvesting', and 'crushing'. There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the response, including 'prosess', 'crusing', 'filte', and 'digram', alongside awkward phrasing like 'ho to crushing the sugar cand purify'. These lexical errors and limited range cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a basic control of word forms and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple clauses and fragmented listings rather than fully formed complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, prepositions, and article usage, such as 'It start from growing... and start to harvesting... and start to crusing', missing subjects, and incorrect prepositional patterns. These frequent errors disrupt the flow and impede clarity, demonstrating a restricted control over grammatical structures.
