Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response attempts to describe the sugar manufacturing process, identifying the main stages from growing to drying and cooling. However, the coverage is only partial and lacks adequate development. While the overview correctly notes that there are seven stages, some key details from the diagram are missed or only minimally described, such as the dual harvesting methods shown in the visual data. The progression is outlined, but the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed, preventing the response from reaching a higher level of task fulfillment.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic logical arrangement in the response, following the sequential order of the diagram from stage to stage. However, progression is somewhat impaired by mechanical and repetitive cohesive devices, such as the frequent use of phrases like 'In this stage' and 'Then'. Paragraphing is also somewhat fragmented, as the text is broken into short, disjointed blocks rather than being properly grouped into cohesive paragraphs that reflect the natural stages of the manufacturing process.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate to describe the process, featuring domain-specific terms such as 'harvesting', 'crushing', 'limestone filter', 'evaporator', and 'centrifuge'. However, there is a limited range of vocabulary, accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling, such as 'illustrate' instead of 'illustrates', 'evaporater', 'sugr', 'seprated', and 'dr' instead of 'dry'. These inaccuracies reflect a limited lexical resource that occasionally causes minor strain for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text relies on a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex or longer sentences often contain errors. There are frequent grammatical mistakes throughout the response, including subject-verb agreement errors like 'this whole process have' and 'sugar canes takes', incorrect article usage, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns. For instance, 'illustrate that how sugar is manufactured' contains unnecessary redundancy. These frequent errors in basic and attempted structures cause some difficulty and distraction for the reader.
