Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
How sugar is produced from sugar cane
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The diagram illustrate the manufacturing process for making suger from suger cane. The process helps for making super from suger cane easily.
The process starts from the growing a suger canes, it takes a times for growing 12 to 18 months. When suger canes are grown after 12 to 18 months. The two methods are using for harvesting, first the farmer using some instruments for ploughing the suger cane, second method using the big machines like tractor and harvesting machine. The both methods are used for harvesting.
After the harvesting, third process are started, the crushing process are started, the suger cane are crushed after juice are begin from the machine they are using for the crushing suger canes. When third process are completed, the fourth process are begin, process is purifiying juice using limestone filter. After the purifying juice, fifth step are starting, the evaporator process are begin , the process is heat the purifying juice till juice becomes syrup.
When evaporator process are completed, the scond last process are started, the centrifuge, the separates suger crystals from syrup. Now, the last process are started, a drying and cooling after the both step suger are ready for the used.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You cover the main sequence from growing through to drying and cooling, and correctly include the 12–18-month growing period, limestone filtration, heating to make syrup, and separation of crystals in a centrifuge. However, the response does not give a clear overview of the process as a whole, and some details are inaccurate or unclear. In particular, the harvesting methods are reversed: the diagram shows mechanical harvesting and harvesting by hand, not a farmer ploughing with instruments followed by a tractor. The final result is also described vaguely as sugar being “ready for the used.” To strengthen the report, state that this is a linear, seven-stage process and describe each stage precisely, without adding unsupported details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The stages are generally presented in the correct order, and sequencing phrases such as “After the harvesting,” “When third process are completed,” and “Now, the last process” help the reader follow the production line. The paragraphing also separates the opening from the process description. However, the progression is sometimes mechanical, with repeated references to each numbered process rather than smoother links between stages. Several sentences run together or repeat information, such as the explanation that harvesting uses two methods. Use clearer sentence boundaries and connect related steps more naturally—for example, explain that the harvested cane is crushed, producing juice that is then purified. A concise overview paragraph would also make the organisation more complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant process vocabulary, including “limestone filter,” “evaporator,” “centrifuge,” “crystals,” and “syrup,” which helps communicate the subject. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are inaccurate, repetitive, or misspelled. “Suger” is repeatedly misspelled, while “ploughing” does not describe the harvesting method shown. Phrases such as “the process helps for making” and “ready for the used” are not natural in this context and make parts of the report difficult to understand. Aim for precise process verbs and standard spelling, and avoid repeating “process” when a stage name or linking phrase would be clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to describe a sequence using both simple sentences and clauses beginning with “When” and “After,” but grammatical control is weak and errors frequently affect clarity. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in examples such as “The diagram illustrate” and “the third process are started.” Articles and plurals are also problematic in “the growing a suger canes,” and verb forms are often incorrect, as in “the farmer using” and “juice are begin.” Some sentences combine several ideas without clear grammatical structure, particularly the description of crushing and juice production. Practise accurate present-simple passive forms for processes, such as “the cane is crushed” and “the juice is purified,” and check agreement and sentence boundaries.
