Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the process as having seven stages and report several key steps, including the 12–18-month growing period, crushing, purification, evaporation, centrifuging, and drying and cooling. However, the account is only partial: harvesting is described as using a “combine hervest,” while the diagram shows both mechanical and manual harvesting, and the limestone filter’s role is not clearly explained. The overview repeats that all steps are important rather than summarising the process’s overall progression from cane to sugar. The response is also below the required 150 words, which limits the detail available. To strengthen the report, give a concise overview and describe each stage accurately, including the two harvesting methods and the separation of crystals from syrup.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic sequence, moving from growing and harvesting through processing to the final drying and cooling stage. Paragraph breaks also separate an attempted overview from the stage descriptions. However, progression is weakened by repetition: “All steps are very important” is stated twice, and the overview does not clearly guide the reader through the process. Linking phrases such as “By giving a cursory glance” and “Moving further ahead” are awkward and do not establish precise relationships between stages. Some connections are difficult to follow, particularly the sentence about purification and evaporation. Organise the report into a clear overview followed by a chronological account, using simple links such as “Next,” “After this,” and “Finally” only where they clarify the sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt some process-related vocabulary, including “limestone filter,” “syrup,” “centrifuge,” and “crystal,” which helps identify several stages. However, spelling and word-choice errors are frequent and sometimes make the meaning difficult to recover: “genral,” “sugan,” “hervest,” “evaprotor,” and “lucide” are examples. Several phrases are also unnatural, such as “combine hervest” and “the sugar are dry and cooled.” The repeated use of “important” adds little information. Aim for accurate, standard process vocabulary and collocations—for example, “the cane is harvested,” “the juice is heated until it becomes syrup,” and “sugar crystals are separated from the remaining syrup.” Proofreading spelling would also make your meaning clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts longer sentences and sequencing, but grammatical control is weak and errors frequently affect clarity. For example, “the whole process are 7 steps” has incorrect agreement and sentence structure, while “the sugar cane are the harvested” contains problems with agreement and the passive form. The sentence beginning “afterwaere the sugar cane…” combines several stages without clear grammatical links, and “the sugar are dry and cooled” again has incorrect agreement and passive construction. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent. Most sentences rely on basic patterns, and attempts to combine ideas often become difficult to follow. Practise accurate passive forms—such as “the cane is crushed”—and build shorter, complete sentences before adding subordinate clauses.
