How sugar is produced from sugar cane

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The picture illustrate the process of manufactring sugar from sugarcane in seven stages. It shows how the sugarcane plants can able to transfered into sugar.

In the first phase sugar cane plants take 12 to 18 months from bowing seeds to become plants. After this phase, the sugar cane plants are harvested by using two methods, either by usig manually or by machine.

Then the proces come, when the harvested sugar cane can be crushed by using crusher. Crusher take sugarcane from one sde and then provide extracted juice from other side. THen this juice purivied by using limestone fillter.

After purification, juice send into the container , where it is evaported the amount of water from sugar juice and become syrup by using the heat. In the sixth phase, sugar crystal seprated from syrup this process known as Centrifuge. At the last, it send to the container where it is dried and cooled.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You cover the main sequence from growing and harvesting through crushing, purification, evaporation, centrifuging, and drying and cooling. The overview that the process has seven stages is useful, and you correctly mention the 12–18-month growing period and the two harvesting methods. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: the diagram shows growing sugar cane, not seeds being sown, and the final stage is described as sending the material to a container rather than clearly identifying the resulting sugar. The explanation of centrifuging would also be clearer if you stated that it separates sugar crystals from the remaining syrup. A more precise overview of the transformation from cane to sugar, followed by accurate descriptions of each stage, would make the account more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The stages are presented in a generally logical order, and paragraph breaks help distinguish the early and later parts of the process. Sequencing phrases such as “In the first phase,” “Then,” “After purification,” and “At the last” guide the reader through the diagram. However, some links are mechanical or unclear: “Then the proces come” does not clearly introduce the next stage, and “After this phase” refers broadly to the growing period rather than explicitly linking growth to harvesting. The final paragraph also combines several stages without consistently signalling their relationships. Use concise transitions such as “Next,” “The juice is then,” and “Finally,” and make references like “it” explicit so the progression is easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant process vocabulary, including “harvested,” “crushed,” “limestone filter,” “evaporated,” “syrup,” and “centrifuge,” which helps communicate the stages. However, the range is limited and several spelling errors or imprecise expressions reduce clarity, including “manufactring,” “purivied,” “fillter,” and “seprated.” Some word combinations are also unnatural, such as “take sugarcane from one side” and “evaported the amount of water.” Aim for accurate process collocations and use the diagram’s terminology where possible: for example, describe juice as being filtered, heated until it becomes syrup, and spun to separate crystals. Proofreading spelling and choosing precise verbs would make your vocabulary more effective.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the sequence is usually understandable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction are frequent enough to make some sentences awkward or difficult to interpret. For example, “The picture illustrate” needs subject–verb agreement, while “plants can able to transfered” has an incorrect modal construction and verb form. In “After purification, juice send into the container,” the passive verb is incomplete; write “the juice is sent.” The sentence about evaporation also needs a clearer structure, such as “Heat evaporates some of the water, turning the juice into syrup.” Practise accurate passive forms, which are especially useful for describing processes, and check each sentence for a complete verb phrase.
